Life Is Like A Box of Chocolates | Charlottesville VA Family Child Photographer

This is Kira and her family. You may read me refer to her. She runs Baby Boot Camp here in Charlottesville and is responsible for all my soreness and shaking legs during sessions. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love her. Most of the time. Except when I may or may not be making sarcastic remarks under my breath to get me through a workout. 😀

Kira’s family had never had family pictures done before and to say she was a little nervous about how her boys would behave was an understatement. She just didn’t know what she was gonna get. Let me just clear the air and let you in on a little secret. No ones kids are perfect during a session. No ones. Especially mine. Noah has a full blown pout fest during our last family pictures. His lovey is in 75% of our photos because he just couldn’t turn loose of it. But a good photographer will find something to engage them or make them laugh and forget about their mood. For Noah it was a cupcake. For Kira’s boys it was a teepee, bow and arrows, and oddly enough Justin Bieber. (I just googled him to make sure I spelled his name right. Shhh, don’t tell anyone!)

Their family loves to be outdoors and so when I was brainstorming their session I kept thinking of a bon fire. However, real fire could get out of control and if I burned down a field I don’t think the Charlottesville Fire Department would be too thrilled with me. Even if it was for the most awesome photos ever. Then the day before their session it suddenly hit me. We should do a teepee. So out into the woods I went looking for fallen limbs with which to make said teepee. My vast teepee making experience came in quite handy when picking just the right limbs. Add a little twine and some fabric and you’ve got yourself a teepee. The bow and arrows came into play because Noah was playing in the drive way with a curved stick and Isaac said hey Kira’s boys would probably love bow and arrows. So all that to say you never know what I may bring to your family session but the boys sure loved it!
