Fresh | Charlottesville VA Baby Family Newborn Photographer

When Rachael and I were corresponding about her newborn session, she expressed concern about where we would be doing the session. My house is SO not cute. We live in student housing! My response was and always will be, it doesn’t matter. We’ll make it work.

As someone who has moved a lot, and I mean a LOT, photos not only remind me of the moment but also of the place. The place I was in my life at that time and where I was geographically. I remember the people that surrounded me in those times even though it may have been years since I’ve talked to them and the house that so many of those memories were made in, in all its imperfect glory.

When Noah was born, I hired a photographer to come out to the house and do his newborn photos. I remember that I was between a studio photographer and the photographer I ended up using who came to you. I ended up choosing the one that would come to our house not because she did lifestyle photos but because it was easier for me. I didn’t have to get myself and Isaac ready and drag him and our newborn out to someone’s studio. It may have been the lazy choice.

While the images that I got were probably very similar to what I would have gotten in a studio, the thing that I appreciate the most about those photos is that so many of our items are incorporated. I love the pictures of Noah in his crib. I love that she used a basket that we had in the room for his toys. I mean we even stuffed him in an Easter basket complete with plastic filling and eggs for goodness sake! Our photographer was seriously humoring us here, but we loved it! Every time I look back at those photos I am instantly transported back to his nursery and flooded by all the memories that we had there. And THIS is why I will always encourage you to have your newborn session in your home. We all can’t be Martha Stewart. I’ve got diapers to change, dishes to do, and photos to take!

Such a handsome little guy! He gave me awesome facial expressions, great eye contact, and sleepy goodness practically on demand. Plus, that oh so fresh newborn aroma was practically intoxicating. Who wouldn’t love to snuggle with that?
