My Happy Medium | Charlottesville VA Baby Family Newborn Photographer

Robyn was one of my first friends after we moved to Charlottesville. I quickly joined the Mom’s Club North after we moved because I needed some friends. We had been living outside D.C. for six months and I had not made any real friends. I was terribly alone. This awesome group of ladies welcomed me with open arms and I think that was essential to my experience here in Charlottesville. I’m no longer in the Mom’s Club because my schedule just got too hectic but I’m still friends with several of the ladies and even end up at their garage sales once in awhile!

Robyn and her family were also one of the first families to trust me on this whole lifestyle, in your home newborn session idea. I distinctly remember after coming home from shooting thinking to myself that THIS is what I wanted to do. I learned baby posing first and went in that direction for about a year. But it was stressful. I wasn’t confident in myself and I had a hard time getting moms to jump into pictures with their new babies. And dads? Forget about it. I never had a dad show up once to a posed newborn session, even though I encouraged it. So I found my happy medium. I love, love, love, love, love the relaxed atmosphere of the lifestyle session. Mom can go about her business while I work with baby, the older kids can play, and dad can pop in only when I need him. Most dads don’t want to hang around for the whole show and that’s okay. I get family shots now which are extremely important to me. I get sibling shots. I get mom cuddling and connecting with baby. And I can also throw a few poses in the mix. I try to do at least two poses with each session so you’re getting a good mix.

But my house is not clean and SO not cute. Moms, every single client has said this to me. No ones house is perfect or straight out of Martha Stewart. We’ll declutter as I find light that I want use. It’s a part of the job. I won’t judge you for that basket of unfolded laundry cause I’ve got one in my room almost on a permanent basis. It’s okay! I want you to look back on your photos and remember that house that you brought your baby home to in all its imperfect glory. It’s a part of your story. Plus, my job is to make it look awesome. You’ll thank me for it as soon as you see your photos.
