Newborn Session FAQs

When should I book my newborn session?

As soon as you can. It’s never too early, except maybe if you aren’t yet pregnant. I only book two newborns a week to allow for flexibility. You’ll be placed on my schedule based on your actual due date, but that date may move depending on the date you actually deliver. Because of this, it is important to get on my calendar sooner rather than later.

When does my session take place?

Newborn sessions generally take place in the first three weeks of baby’s life. We want to capture their newness and this is when they are at their curliest and snuggliest. That being said, I have done sessions in the newborn style with babies up to 6 weeks old.

What do I need to bring?

Nothing! I have an entire room in my studio packed with props, headbands, hats, outfits, and all the extras that we need. Additionally, the studio has snacks, drinks, diapers, bottle warmers, and a couch to crash on to make this as easy for you as possible.

How long is the session?

Newborn sessions generally last 2-4 hours. If you wish to do family and/or sibling images, you’ll be on the longer side of that estimate. I work at your baby’s pace and do not rush so that I can provide you with the images you see on my site.  Some babies sleep from the second they enter the studio until they leave, while others need more nursing/bottle breaks. Every baby is different.

How do I prepare for my session?

I’ll send you prep information before your session. It gives you a breakdown of things to do before you head to me to help prepare yourself and baby for the session.

What should we wear?

I like to keep things really simple. Tees or tanks in neutral shades (white, cream, black, grey) work well. I generally do siblings in creams and lean towards blacks or greys for individual parent images.
